Ethos
Music is a dynamic department within the school and seeks to capture all student’s interest, whatever their musical preference or background. To this end we have heavily invested in music technology and use of this, forms a major part of our teaching and learning. We expect high standards of the students in both behaviour and effort and this is reflected in our very high success rate in public examinations.

Curriculum Summary
KS3 students study World Music, Keyboard Skills, Listening Skills, Mediaeval Music, Music for Film, Programme Music, Theory and notation and sequencing. KS4 follow the AQA GCSE syllabus

KS5 can study either A level Music (AQA syllabus) or A level Music Technology, or both.

Complete remodelling of the music department (£10,000 investment in technology) in August 2005.
8 track recording studio due to come onstream in March 2007
Increased student numbers at GCSE (from 8 in 2005 to 32 in 2006) and A level (from 3 in 2005 to 14 in 2006) for September 2006.
High percentage pass rates at GCSE (94% A*- C; 100% A*- D)
High quality staff – lessons observed classed as “Outstanding” according to Ofsted criteria
Excellent concerts which also raise money for charity – last Christmas concert raised £330 for Band Aid.
Excellent instrumental tuition available through visiting peripatetic teachers.
Regular lunchtime clubs / subject support sessions available and accessed by students each lunchtime
